Medica Tirana: The Therapy Centre in Tirana

Albania is one of the poorest countries in Europe, almost forgotten is its long history of conflict. As a result of the Balkan wars, the communist dictatorship of Enver Hoxha and the wars in Yugoslavia, Albania still suffers from a fragile state, corruption, crime, unemployment and rural exodus. Despite its increasing orientation towards the European Union, the situation of many women and girls continues to be precarious. While the country has economic progress, patriarchal traditions and blood vengeance just return back to the slums, the rural areas and the suburbs. The everyday life of many Albanian women is not only marked by poverty and high unemployment, but also by trafficking in women, violence and domination by male family members.

Independence for medica mondiale in Afghanistan: Founding of Medica Afghanistan

We finally made it: at the beginning of this year medica mondiale Afghanistan became an independent non-governmental organisation. The individual Afghan projects run by medica mondiale had been growing ever closer since the start of the organisation’s work in the country in 2002, and this has now developed into a courageous and capable women’s rights organisation to be known as Medica Afghanistan - Women Support Organisation. The name was chosen to express the close connection to its sister organisation in Cologne, Germany.

medica mondiale Liberia calls for action to end violence against women

On November 25th an official launch of the 16 days of activism against gender violence and anti-rape campaign was held at the national sports complex in the capital Monrovia. A medica mondiale Liberia representative made the remarks on behalf of all international non-governmental organisations working in Liberia and called on all who are working together to rebuild the nation to continue to work together to end violence against all women and girls.

Afghan women vow not to accept a peace that harms their achievements

Women from ten organisations, in a meeting of the Peace Building Network (PBN) called by medica mondiale Afghanistan and Afghan Women’s Network (AWN) on Thursday 10 th June, proclaimed their support of the active participation of women in the Peace Jirga and declared with one voice that Afghan women won’t agree to lose their achievements in a peace deal. They praised the active participation of women in the Jirga, and they stipulated that Afghan women will not accept a peace negotiation which causes any harm to or loss of the achievements they have gained over the last ten years.
