medica mondiale appalled at the murder of the Congolese Human Rights Activist

On June 2, 2010, the Congolese Human Rights Activist Floribert Chebeya Bahizire was found dead in a car in the capital Kinshasa with his hands tied. In the past the director of the Organization La Voix des Sans-Voix (Voice of those without voice) had worked several times with Immaculée Birhaheka, who is at the helm of PAIF, which is the Congolese partner organisation of medica mondiale. „I am shocked at Chebeya’s murder and do hope that an independent investigation will determine the perpetrators“, Birhaheka said.

The 46-year old was among the most consistent Human Rights activists in the Democratic Republic of Kongo and time and again had admonished the violation of human rights in the country. medica mondiale is deeply sorry about the death of the committed activist and once again points to the necessity of an increased protection of human rights activists in the country: “The German Federal Government and the local German Embassies have to assist the courageous women and men both at financial and organizational level and employ all of their political weight for resolving the case and for bringing the perpetrators to justice“, Dr. Monika Hauser said.
