Liberia

The Project Area

Typical street scene in Liberia outside of Fishtown.

Grand Gedeh, River Gee and Sinoe are three of the fifteen administrative districts in Liberia. Most people live in camps or villages that have been destroyed by war. Collapsed bridges and ruined roads can be found throughout the country even after the civil war. Some areas continue to be cut off from the outside world. Clean drinking water is found almost only in the district capitals. Schools without roofs cannot be used in the rainy season. Fields for rice and cassava, two basic staples in the Liberian diet, continue to lie fallow.
